Check out what we found....
....when we were driving on the beach! In addition to his new dirtbike, Brian just purchased the Ute (as in "utility" as in "truck") of his dreams: a Toyota Hilux! We headed back to Straddie Island to romp around on this most perfect beach-worthy and sunny day :) Most islands around Queensland require a 4WD vehicle and an offroading permit, so now we absolutely qualify!!!

The tide was acting crazy and there was a little pool of water, on the shore. (Can you find me in this picture?)
Dark photo but there was definitely mud/sand/portugese man o war splattered all over the truck!!!! What a fun day! And yes, that first picture was of the most massive pelicans I've ever seen in my life. Truly bizarre...(LISA- we get to go off roading everywhere and camping now when you come!!!)
As we quickly approach our whirlwind AZ visit, we have HEAPS coming our way here in Oz. B's 25th birthday is in 3 days! (the 20th of Jan) and we're having a combined birthday barbie for both he and our other Yank mate, Sean, on the 24th. On the 25th we're all going to my ukulele gig, and the following day is Australia Day!!!!!!! It's going to be a LONG weekend of barbies, sunshine, beer and patriotism...check back next week for pictures of our first Aussie Day :)
Meanwhile, Brian leaves today to live out his Aussie dream: going dirtbiking with his new ute in the bush! I'm pretty worried, but all of you that know him also know that this is only the beginning of his adventures with his new toys! (He'll hopefully share some pictures after his weekend away)

I would love to but I only have like 8 days of vacation for the year, and 3 have to be used during winter.....
On the other hand, things are looking up because my good friend Alick will be moving to Oz for an internship with Unesco. Apparently it's closer to Sydney but kind of between Sydney and Brizzy. I'm not really too sure, my knowledge of Aussie geography is pretty poor. But I now will have 2 reasons to go to Oz.
