Salmon and eagles and glaciers, oh my!

Well- I survived my 7 days of cruising with my family through Alaska! These are some highlights of our trip, and you can decide for yourself exactly how untouched and beautiful this part of the world truly is. (For now...stupid global warming.)

Now you're thinking, "I didn't know Summer's family was rich?!?...." Answer- we're not. We booked this cruise one year ago on a promo rate, and since we don't give each other gifts for the holidays, we spent that money on this instead! We waited all year and it was finally time to board the Norweigan Star for some family fun.

We all arrived in Seattle and we met by cousin Tatsumi and Aunty Mishizu, who took us to eat at a fabulous seafood restaurant.

As soon as we boarded the Star, we were greeted with champagne, and friendly crew members at every corner. There is too much to explain in detail so here is just a piece of it:

Throughout the 7 days, I (Summer) ate dessert 3 times a day, fell asleep on our balcony a few times, played bingo with mom, went hiking in Ketchikan, rode mountain bikes in Juneau, watched movies in our cabin, drank coffee all day long, got asked by 6 different Filipino crew members if I was Filipino (NO, I'm not), jogged around the track on the upper deck, ate heaps of smoked salmon, kayaked in Canada (eh), got sprayed by waterfalls in Skagway, got a massage and facial in the spa, lost money in roulette, made money on nickel slots, watched the sunset every night at 10 p.m., saw dolphins and whales swimming near our ship, ate lobster twice, saw bald eagles, glaciers and icebergs, saw 3 shows at the theater, tripped over old people about5 times, took the stairs from the 6th to the 11th floor 4 times a day, got ripped off in the gift shops, ate delicious gourmet meals almost every 2 hours, got to take a tour of the ship, and laughed at her family being ridiculous all day and night.

All in all, the only people who were on this ship were either Asians, or Geriatrics. (I mean OLD OLD OLD people). That was fine, except for they were complaining a lot, were 45 minutes early for everything, and pushing people in line at the buffets. And there were Asian people everywhere taking pictures. My family was sort of in between, taking lots of pictures but also eating a lot just like the old, fat, white people. (Sorry- I'm not racist, I'm merely reporting back on what I observed). I would recommend this exact cruise for older people since they play bingo everyday, you can play shuffleboard, and you can buy lots of overpriced gifts for the grandkids.

It was a great time! The weather was actually sunny most of the week (extremely rare) and I only got seasick on day 2! (yeah ear patch!) So much more happened that I can't recall right now, but I can't wait to go on another cruise one day...

By the way....B and I leave in 12 more days!!!!! :0)

Summer -

Welcome home! We are hoping to go to Alaska one of these days but porbably not on a huge ship with the "blue hairs!" It looks like you had a great time anyway.

I just figured out that my niece's birthday party (she is turning 13) and yours are at the same time! Good Grief! I hve no socail life and then two things on the same day! YIKES.

Have a great time Sunday. If you have time next week and you are feeling stranded call me! Savannah is out of school on Firday and next week we too are packing for our vacation.

I'm taking my lap top to Maui so I can keep in touch! Let me know how is goes. Julie Templeton
