Last night (Friday) we commemorated our 2 months since moving to Oz by going and having THE MOST INCREDIBLE MEAL since we got here! So amazing, that in all my face stuffing and gorging, I didn't take any pictures whatsoever. (Sorry, I was completely distracted by my suddenly enormous appetite)
Brian had told me about "this awesome Indian food place"- Punjabi Palace -near his work in the West End, so we ended up there so I could decide for myself just how awesome it really was. Let me just tell you, I've had my share of Indian food, but this meal is STILL lingering in my mind! I got a basic curry and B got a beef vindaloo, and we inhaled it with the garlic naan and rice. I couldn't believe how vibrant and intense all these flavors were, and its the first time in forever that we've found an agreeable place to eat for both of us. I know for sure most of my family (especially my mom) would love it!
...Which brings me to my next topic, entitled "things we are homesick for". Now that we are happy about the Indian/Thai/Chinese/Greek food here, it barely begins to ease the heartache that we feel when we think about good Mexican food back home...
SO since we're getting this question a lot lately, here is the first official list of "things we are homesick for"- 2 months now into Aussie life:
(Collectively)-Mexican food (particularly from dodgy places like Filiberto's). GOOD beer (like Apricot Hefeweizen and other random craft beers). FOUR PEAKS BREWERY (everything about it). Family doggies-Enzo, Kona, Bubba, and Penny. "Double-doubles and grilled cheeses" from In N' Out. Cases of Gatorade, Snapple and Vitamin Water from Costco. Patti's cooking!!! Craigslist. Hulu.com. NBC and ABC.com. (Cannot view episodes outside the U.S.) Giant soft drinks at QT. Cheap electronics stuff. Lee's Sandwiches. Lee Lee Market. Cheap Coronas. All-you-can-use condiments. Soft clothes coming out of the dryer. RA sushi happy hour. Sacks sandwiches that don't charge you extra to add on condiments. Large bottles of shampoo.
To balance this list out, here are the "little things we will one day miss about Aussie if we leave":
Cheap, good quality local wine. Australian licorice. Not tipping! A beach always within reach. Buying locally grown fruits and veggies at the farmers markets. Garlic naan from Punjabi Palace. Noodles from Song Song. "BYO" (bring your own) wine at every restaurant. Mochas from French Twist. Ice cream from New Zealand Natural. Cadbury chocolate-filled showbags. Fish and chips. Not having a DD and taking the bus. Not having one cent coins! Sweet thai chili sauce. Breaka iced coffee. Cheddarmite scroll (vegemite plus cheddar on a baked bun). Eggymite toast. Proper tea (with heaps of milk and sugar)-3 times a day. McCafe (inside of McDonald's). Wildflowers and exotic plants growing everywhere you look. Funny names (fun to say) for suburbs. Small cars. (Truly) green city living. Drinkable tap water.....and MANY more things to come!
